Photography has been my passion for about 12 years. It started in May of 2000 when we went on a vacation to Cairns Australia and I had a cheapo Kodak disposable camera...the images were horrible (duh!). From that moment on, I was determined to photograph the color of life as best as I could. Thank you for visiting my website! My love for photography began as a child. I remember going to the National Museum of the Air Force when I was 9 or 10 years old. I spent every penny I had buying and shooting all the rolls of 110 film I could get my hands on. It took me weeks to save up enough to get them all developed (aahhh digital). I found the pictures again a few years ago. The pictures were nothing spectacular, but I'll never forget the rush I got taking them. Jump ahead to high school where I took my first photography class and learned about exposure, composure, and developing. After that I got away from serious photography until just a few years back. My father got a fancy new camera, a Nikon D90, and I had to have one too. I tried out a lot of lower grade equipment before learning the reasons why the pro grade stuff cost soooo much. There really is a huge difference in what you can do with it. But then I hit another wall. Even though my gear was good, I couldn't get all the shots I was trying for. My dad was having similar issues and we discovered a local photography school, Light Photographic Workshops. And the rest, as they say, is history. Not really, but I did learn how to fully use my camera and have continued to strive to be a better photographer ever since. I am fortunate to live in an area filled with great places to shoot, and to have friends and family that are so supportive of my work.

As you view my images you’ll find out a lot about me. For instance, I see natural landscapes and the creatures that call them home as being at the same time grand works of art and also places for renewal, connection and education. It’s probably also apparent that I love to travel. The world is a big, beautiful and fascinating place, and my travel images aim to show it in all its glory. Photographing people and their cultures is one big reason I travel, and I hope my images tell you something about what makes all of us unique, along with all that we share. In short, despite all my photographs of nature and landscape, I am also a photographer of people, especially in those candid moments: with family or friends, with their pets, or simply alone. I’m very serious about photography as art, as a way to communicate what is more difficult (even impossible) to say with words. I don't tend to shoot popular subjects or incorporate trendy looks into my images. My influences from without are as numerous and varied as the whole world is. Influences from within include my past careers as an earth scientist and also a teacher. Both continue to inform my photography. For example my landscape images often highlight aspects of the region’s geologic history. My strong affinity for nature and animals of all kinds is a major influence as well. Global travel has given me a keen awareness of human impacts on the environment. We are forever connected after all - to the earth which gives us everything, and to each other. Images that capture harrowing feats in world-class sailing competition are frozen in perpetuity through Priscilla Parker's view finder. Serving as an organizing official and/or race committee member for local, national and international sailing regattas, Parker has managed to grab photographic stills of competitors pursuing victory in perilously rough, fast waters --- from the deck of a rocking, some times wet boat. On any given weekend, Priscilla experiences the saltwater rush that coexists themes for a greater cause --- raising funds and supporting sailing events to support cancer research and patient care. After becoming the first person to use computer technology for onboard scoring of Charleston Race Week in 2005, Parker was toting a camera as part other racing official gear -- generally a scoring pad, whistle, flags, and an accurate clock. After 30 years of either competitor or race committee member in sailing events, Parker figured it time she started recording the experience for enjoyment later. The switch from 35mm to digital brought about a new and different world of photography. Her shots have captured soaked racing jocks standing parallel to the waves on the edge of a sailboat; the ominous view of the Spirit of South Carolina tall ship as it passes under the Cooper River span; and colorful clusters of competitors that have come to Charleston from lands afar to test the Charleston currents. Her work has been featured in national sailing and boating publications, as well as local news media. The New Bern, NC native has become an indelible member of the Lowcountry sailing community as a member of the Charleston Ocean Racing Association, South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association, Charleston Yacht Club and volunteer with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Leukemia Cup Regatta and past volunteer for the Maritime Heritage Foundation. Her work speaks of her love for the sport and passion to immortalize the moment.

Until that time, we colored inside the lines. The creative gene sparked an interest in photography. I discovered that you could make memories permanent with film if only with a Brownie Starflash in black and white. A few classes in college and independent study have encouraged me to use the camera to "see" the world in my unique way. I am a lover of living intentionally, experiential learning, and global thinking. An academic interdisciplinarian, I have degrees in Human Biology, Social Work, Ethics, Spanish Language, and recently a Master Degree in Global Public Health. I earned my chops in photography as a photojournalist, and in post processing as a photo-editor, in 2011 when I worked for a local daily newspaper for 1 year. Since then I have continued local freelance work, but have primarily focused on my true passion – travel photography. Forever hungry for novel experiences, and permanently thirsty for caffeine, I inevitably fall in love with every place I visit. I am an Atlanta based photographer specializing in fine art landscape, architectural and artwork photography. Working in both black & white and color, my landscape images are an expression of my lifelong love for the wonders of our natural world. My current black and white work is an exploration of the monochromatic world of patterns, shapes, tones and textures in natural settings. As I continue to explore this world I find myself moving away from the traditional wide "landscape" views to more intimate compositions with a particular emphasis on the structure of the subject and the composition. My color work - as opposed to focusing on form and texture as I do in my black and white portfolio - uses color itself as the essence of the image. The colors being as, or sometimes more, important than the actual subject matter of the photograph "Abstract Water Studies" is a new project in both color and black and white that explores the movement, texture and color of water separated from the normal context. Although I use modern digital equipment to capture and process my images I am, at the core, a traditionalist and use the "digital darkroom" to perform only traditional darkroom techniques such as dodging and burning, tonal adjustments and contrast control to create the image as I visualized it in the field. I fell in love with photography at age 15 when I got my first SLR camera for Christmas back in 1983. I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer but photography school was too expensive so I never pursued it professionally. In my 20's, I didn't have time to do much photography due to... well, life. At around age 32 I decided I wanted to be happy, finally, and I wanted to take control of my life instead of being controlled by my job. So I started getting back into my photography and practicing and shooting and reading everything I could get my hands on and teaching myself how to be a better photographer. So at age 34 I started my photography business. This was in 2002 about 6 months after 9/11. Probably not the best time to start a business, but for me it was now or never. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life! I put everything I had into it with the attitude that "I will make this happen!" Failure was not an option. To my surprise... three years later, I was shooting 50 weddings a year. The best part... I am happy! I love what I do, I love my life... What could be better than that? About My Photography I don't like to label my style of photography. I just go with what I am feeling from the bride and groom and what I am feeling from the wedding location. The light, the colors, the textures all play a part in how I shoot. I bring a relaxed, fun and confident attitude to my shoots. I get told by my clients that I am a joy to work with and I make them feel very comfortable in front of the camera. I get people at my weddings telling me, "Dude, your an awesome photographer!" My passion...is to capture expressions and emotion in my photographs. I have been fascinated with photography since I was in grade school. I was always the one with the camera, getting great action and group shots. I never went anywhere without my camera and, everyone has ALWAYS depended on me to capture the memories of every event. Through the years, I have long considered photography as just simply an enthusiastic hobby, however, it became more intensified upon the birth of my child. Now, I never put the camera down. It wasn't until 8 years ago when the company I worked for, for 22 years, sold. Everyone told me that this was the time for me to pursue my dreams, and now I am. I started shooting weddings and quickly found out how much I love taking candids and getting people's expressions. Most of the time, I don't want my subjects to pose. I love to capture them in the moment. I have recently been shooting local sport tournaments and can I tell you how awesome action photography is for me. I was recently told by a mom that it is amazing how I capture the personality of a child as if I've photgraphed them for years, when in fact I just meet them. That is why I love to do what I do. I am a perfectionist in everything that I do. My goal is to be at the right place at the right time and to get that hard to get shot. I want to see excitement and joy in people's faces when they see the pictures that I have taken of their families and friends. When I was small I used to love visiting my nan and heading down the hall in her small bungalow right to the very end, and sitting for hours in the back bedroom surrounded by photo albums. I am a mother, a wife, and a photographer... in that order. ;) I love my family first and foremost. I am a jack of many trades, I love creating, everything - from beautiful images, to costumes, to yummy foods. I love my craft closet, (which is full of stuff I can use to make things for you session that will make it that much more interesting) I love my costume and prop collection, I love thrift stores and flea markets, and I love a good sale anywhere. I enjoy reading good long books as well as writing, (although life has seemed to push that pastime to the side for the most part) and I rarely ever watch TV. I enjoy the outdoors and sports, and when I get old I will be be an avid traveler. ;) The sky amazes me and I have recently began taking random photos of it (awesome for overlays)...., I would love to have a second house at the ocean. I have an obsession with dying my hair random colors dependent upon my mood, and lately am rarely seen without a bandana tied around my head. If asked about my favorite color, I would have to say that I love them all (which is reflected throughout the walls of my home) yet I always gravitate toward things that are black. I am inspired in one way or another by everything that I have ever seen or experienced. (good, bad, and ugly) I like to think that I am a very intelligent person, I have an extremely sarcastic sense of humor at times, and I truly enjoy people. I have a very good sense of style, although my clothing choices for myself may not always reflect that as I am often in a tank top and jeans. (That said, you will never catch me dead in "mom" jeans) I drive too fast, and love music....all genres, like in a "My name is Amanda and I must be schizophrenic due to my playlist" kind of way.... I am not a "professionally trained photographer" so I can show you no credentials aside from my portfolio, as I am completely self taught and expand on my creativity and knowledge whenever possible. I suppose we can call me an extremely passionate artist of the lens, eager to capture and create some fantastic images for you. We are each an unique work of art, I am here to make sure your portraits reflect just that. I can produce a perfectly beautiful image of you sooc (straight out of camera), although rarely will I ever be satisfied with leaving it at that. I would like to consider myself extremely versatile in the creativity department. I love to do themed shoots, and can create costumes as well as other items necessary to pull them off. I have an eye for location, and love and appreciate natural light and texture. I am slightly "edgy", and love to think outside of the box. While there is nothing "conservative" about my taste or personality, I am able to mold my creative juices to suit the situation. So, no matter if you are looking to push the boundaries, or stay comfortably, simply, and beautifully artistic I am the photographer for you. I can do it all.
