Rami Maki, grew up in Baghdad in 1984, surrounded by an artistic family that encouraged him to travel and pursue his dream of creating a company that reflected his passion. His father and mother are both Ceramic artists and graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Baghdad. As a child, his upbringing within a liberal and artistic family kept him away from any religious or ethnic attachments, into a more secular and humanistic perspective and life style, believing in the words of the famous Lebanese author "Amin Maalouf": " I am the son of the road, my country is a caravan and my life is the most unexpected of voyages." Rami went to The Music and Ballet School of Baghdad. After the war, his family had to move from country to country until they finally settled in Syria where young Rami was able to nourish his artistic talent. Due to this, Rami was exposed to different cultures and learned how to speak different accents. In Syria where he also published his first big project, his first website in Old Damascus, containing everything historical and old about it. After his long travel, he finally settled in London where he established his company, Microvera. It provides a comprehensive portfolio of online presences for a wide range of clients from individuals such as actors, TV personalities and broadcasters, to small, medium and large companies. For him, Photography is a universal language that transcends all barriers and can be understood by everyone and everywhere. A picture speaks a thousand words, it gives him deeper meaning to love photography even more. What’s fascinating for him is that the camera can capture a moment with the touch of a button, therefore encapsulating the essence of that memory and the feelings it evokes forever. Karrie Barron Cards came into being in 1995. Their concept and creation was the brain-child of my mother, Karrie Barron, who wanted to make 3-Dimensional cards which depicted miniature worlds. She began designing and making from a back bedroom in our family home in Fulham, London and would take them, once a week, to her stall in the Apple Market, Covent Garden. From a very early age I helped my mother with her work, and over the years I developed the patience, passion and skills to both make and design my own range of cards. In 2007, I took over our small family run business when my mother retired. Passion for my family. That is why I smother my family with all the love I can give. I get a lot of satisfaction for “over loving” my family. hahaha. On a more serious note, I think that we should always cherish and show our appreciation for our family. I just can’t understand it when I read stories of parents abusing or not loving their kids. I really feel sorry for the kids and very upset with those parents who can’t seem to care for them. These parents are wasting an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of their children and to society as a whole.

I am a mother, a wife, and a photographer... in that order. ;) I love my family first and foremost. I am a jack of many trades, I love creating, everything - from beautiful images, to costumes, to yummy foods. I love my craft closet, (which is full of stuff I can use to make things for you session that will make it that much more interesting) I love my costume and prop collection, I love thrift stores and flea markets, and I love a good sale anywhere. I enjoy reading good long books as well as writing, (although life has seemed to push that pastime to the side for the most part) and I rarely ever watch TV. I enjoy the outdoors and sports, and when I get old I will be be an avid traveler. ;) The sky amazes me and I have recently began taking random photos of it (awesome for overlays)...., I would love to have a second house at the ocean. I have an obsession with dying my hair random colors dependent upon my mood, and lately am rarely seen without a bandana tied around my head. If asked about my favorite color, I would have to say that I love them all (which is reflected throughout the walls of my home) yet I always gravitate toward things that are black. I am inspired in one way or another by everything that I have ever seen or experienced. (good, bad, and ugly) I like to think that I am a very intelligent person, I have an extremely sarcastic sense of humor at times, and I truly enjoy people. I have a very good sense of style, although my clothing choices for myself may not always reflect that as I am often in a tank top and jeans. (That said, you will never catch me dead in "mom" jeans) I drive too fast, and love music....all genres, like in a "My name is Amanda and I must be schizophrenic due to my playlist" kind of way.... I am not a "professionally trained photographer" so I can show you no credentials aside from my portfolio, as I am completely self taught and expand on my creativity and knowledge whenever possible. I suppose we can call me an extremely passionate artist of the lens, eager to capture and create some fantastic images for you. We are each an unique work of art, I am here to make sure your portraits reflect just that. I can produce a perfectly beautiful image of you sooc (straight out of camera), although rarely will I ever be satisfied with leaving it at that. I would like to consider myself extremely versatile in the creativity department. I love to do themed shoots, and can create costumes as well as other items necessary to pull them off. I have an eye for location, and love and appreciate natural light and texture. I am slightly "edgy", and love to think outside of the box. While there is nothing "conservative" about my taste or personality, I am able to mold my creative juices to suit the situation. So, no matter if you are looking to push the boundaries, or stay comfortably, simply, and beautifully artistic I am the photographer for you. I can do it all. It’s not easy being a working mother. However, I really can’t complain much about it cause I love my job and I love taking care of my family. Let’s just say I’ve got the best of both worlds! :) I guess when you are busy managing a career and a family, there is a tendency to come up with some tips and tricks to make sure I do a great job with both. Balance is important so I make it a point to keep everything in perspective so that I do not end up being stressed about everything that is going on. I have been fascinated by unconventional people for as long as I can remember. I was raised in a middle class suburban neighborhood where my family stood out as eccentrics. We were the only secular family on the block, and my parents encouraged us to run wild, play hard, and reject authority. My father told captivating stories about his unusual upbringing, many of which revolved around his mother, a paranoid schizophrenic, and his father, a merchant marine with severe PTSD. As I got older, I became curious about other people that lived unorthodox lifestyles. Having seen the work of Mary Ellen Mark and Diane Arbus, I knew that the camera could grant permission into the lives of complete strangers. In 2003, I moved to San Francisco, CA to study photography at The San Francisco Art Institute. After completing my BFA, I moved back to my home town San Diego, with my now husband Tahan, in tow. We currently reside in La Mesa, CA where I work full time as a photographer and am finishing my MFA through the Low Residency program at The San Francisco Art Institute. We are expecting our first child together this Christmas, 2015.
