Tom Burtonwood works from 3D scans of objects and surfaces to make sculpture and installation pieces. Sites are chosen based on function, use, history, personal significance and aesthetic response. Burtonwood responds to the site through the scan thinking about surface, texture, form and subjectivity. The works are installed in the gallery or studio reflecting upon their relationship to codified notions of display. Through this process Burtonwood makes work that examines a range of responses to site, surface and our experience of it.
