kubrick二零零一年在香港百老匯電影中心毗鄰開業，名字借用電影大師斯坦尼・庫布里克（Stanley Kubrick）。為滿足一旁電影院觀眾的需要，提供相應的文化食品如書籍、影碟、唱片等，致力提供更好的藝術創作平臺，推動文化創作。如今香港的kubrick已經發展成為多元化的文化聚散地，加入了圖書發行、音樂會、駐場作家/創作人工作坊、講座、詩會、一人一故事劇場等項目，使得各種創作的可能發揮到最大。 　　一開始只售賣圖書、咖啡及影碟的kubrick並不滿足僅限於“買與賣”的交流，因而嘗試和不同的人合作，提供活動場地和自行出版﹑發行書籍，開拓更多交流分享的空間。二零零三年出版第一本書, 六年內出版﹑發行過百本書籍，出版物題材主要以香港文化及文學為主。二零零六年夏天在香港觀塘開了另一家小店，主要以設計書籍、香港本地創作人及海外的手作﹑精品雜物為主。二零零六年尾油麻地店的影碟部開闢了一個小小的電影紀念品區，專售電影海報、明信片等。 　　二零零四年始，我們也出現在每年七月舉辦的香港國際書展，由九龍油麻地跳踏到香港灣仔，雖然我們的書展攤位空間有限，但每年我們努力推介不同作家作品及藝術家的創作，令更多參觀書展的人能一窺kubrick書店的理念。 　　二零一零年，kubrick登陸北京。同樣以書店和咖啡店為主，同希望能更融合當地文化，成為北京和香港文化藝術的交流平台，並期待有更多同好到來一起創作，分享和交流。所以北京kubrick將會跟不同的藝術單位合作，舉辦更多的展覽、講座及分享會，我們也會在書店內設定畫廊的位置，專門擺放各地藝術家的作品。 　　二零一零年底，杭州分店亦即將開幕，繼續為kubrick和各位同好拓闊分享交流的場域。 Resided next to Broadway Cinematheque, a small four-houses cinema block which features numbers of film festivals and shows many unconventional art films, kubrick determines to be one of the best film bookstore and discstore in town. kubrick might as well be located next to one of the oldest buildings, the Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market in Yau Ma Tei, and kubrick takes more concerns on our local culture. While our predecssor, P.O.V Bookstore (focuses on gender and film book) closed, we follows their steps on November, 2001. In our early years, we have already been launching talks and workshops with local writers and film makers. Though we do not have much space, we try to faciliate our place for anything possible. In the summer of 2007, we had our first taste of kubrick friday live, which is a music programme we work hand in hand with local and foreign musicians inside our bookstore. kubrick is not only a bookstore, but also a publisher since 2003. Over 30 titles of books reaching from gender to social concern have been published and the number are still up and running. We also have our discstore and movie memorabilia shop inside the Cinematheque, and we strive to accquire the best art film dvds, soundtrack, movie posters and indie music cds from all over the world. Our cafe might not be the best restaurant in town, but definitely one of the energetic cafe shop which you can relax for an afternoon with a cup of Fair Trade coffee and some little treats.Besides Yau Ma Tei, kubrick also have a tiny shop in Kwun Tong apm. This shop is chiefly the paradise of the handmade accessories from local and foreign artists.
