Smoky Mountain Living celebrates the Southern Appalachians’ people, culture, history, music, art, crafts and special places in six issues each year. Based in Los Angeles and Chicago, Everything Is Collective (E.I.C.) is an ongoing collaboration between Aaron Hegert, Jason Lukas, and Zachary Norman. Since 2013 the group has worked together on numerous exhibitions, publications, and web-based projects, all of which address contemporary cultural issues through photography and digital images. The collective has exhibited their work nationally and internationally including recent exhibitions at the Aperture Foundation in New York, Royal Nonesuch Gallery in Oakland, Filter Space in Chicago, and the Urban Arts Space at Ohio State University. The collective also runs a small book press that publishes works by members of the collective and also commissions experimental works by independent artists. Recent publications from Everything Is Collective Press have been featured and reviewed widely in print and on the web, and have been acquired by the collections of Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection at SAIC and the MoMA Library in New york, among others. Everything Is Collective is committed to exploring and demonstrating the potential of collective art making and collective action, and all the works they create are attributed to the group as a whole.

Seattle painter, curator and social artist Kate Vrijmoet lives and works in Seattle, WA. She received her MFA from Syracuse University. Her paintings and installations focus on the human body and the human condition, and on issues of consciousness, boundaries, scale and access. Vrijmoet was one of 16 American artists participating in the 2012 5th Beijing International Biennial. Her sound installation, Mother May I…? was awarded Best Installation in the Brooklyn Wide Open exhibit by Charlotta Kotik, Curator Emerita Brooklyn Museum of Art. And it was exhibited at Orange County Center on Contemporary Art–a show endorsed by Nicolas Bourriaud. Vrijmoet has exhibited in shows juried by curators of the MOMA (Paulina Pobocha), the Met (Anne Strauss) and the Guggenheim (Nat Trotman). She received 3rd Prize in 2010 Ecuador Biennial. Her work has been published in the 2014 book Ufora, New American Paintings, The Seattle Times, Catapult Magazine. She is published in numerous catalogs including her CoCA Seattle solo exhibit catalog: Kate Vrijmoet: Essential Gestures. She has exhibited locally at the Linda Hodges Gallery, and has recently been awarded both GAP and Department of Neighborhoods Grants. Vrijmoet is the curator of The Incredible Intensity of Just Being Human, an art & social change exhibit examining the stigma and silence surrounding mental illness.
