How to honor your little one on Valentine's Day? Well, now, that truly is the question. For years I would start the day off for my boys with a special breakfast. When they came running to the breakfast table, they would find a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a gift at their place setting. The gift was always jammie themed – a new pair of pajamas, slippers, a new blanket or a new stuffed animal. Other than baking heart-shaped cookies, and occasionally a desert for dinner, that is really all I ever did for my boys on Valentine's Day. As more and more boys were added to the family, the tradition slowly died out. And so I found myself wondering, what do I do for Valentine's Day this year? If you are in the same boat, fear not!! The day is not done. Try one of these ideas for a last minute Valentine Day surprise – and the ones that require a little more planning can always be tucked away for next year! 21 Ways To Spend Valentine's Day With Your Children 1. K&R Companies was founded in 1993 by father and son, Robert and Keary Jordan. They began in the forest industry which transformed into a logistics company which then serviced the forest industry and oil field. On one occasion they were on a trip one of them made the statement “Let’s try the furniture industry, we’ve tried everything else.” Whoever brought up the idea is still under debate. In June of 1998 they drove one of their 18 Wheelers to Mississippi and bought a load of furniture. They rented a 20x20 Ahern building in the Pickering Flea Market and it all began from there. Customer service is still our top priority. We began to grow rapidly moving to 2500 sq. foot location within months. As we continued growing we saw the need for financing military without high margins or interest. We began financing military with no credit checks and giving them 6 months with no interest, needless to say business boomed and within a few years we relocated to Entrance Rd. We built a 10,000 Sq. ft. showroom and a short time later another 10,000 sq. ft. showroom with an addition of a warehouse. We have been very blessed over the years, a lot of people said we wouldn’t make it but we have expanded with an additional location in Oakdale Louisiana boasting 44,000 sq. Ft. Our military families still being our main focus. We are MWR corporate sponsors and involved with ACS helping soldiers that encounter hardship, furnishing them with donations of household items. After 16 years, customers are still our main priority. Satisfaction is not only our goal, but it is our main objective. A GOAL is an attempt to accomplish something, but an objective is a goal intended to be achieved.

Since 1914, Saint Rita Parish has served the spiritual needs of this community. Please join us, as together we worship God and grow in love for one another under the protection of our patroness, Saint Rita of Cascia. PASTOR: Father Daniel Gee. HISTORY: In 1912, a group of involved, dedicated women, the 'Ladies Seminarian Society', gathered the children of Catholic families living in the area then known as Saint Elmo-Abington-Del Ray and proceeded to instruct them in the Catholic faith in a cobbler's shop. This was the beginning of the rich history of Saint Rita parish in Alexandria. By 1914 permission had been secured from Bishop O'Connell to build a church and a name was chosen, placing the project under the care of Saint Rita of Cascia, the patroness of 'impossible causes'. Ground was broken for the original Saint Rita Church on Hickory Street in Mt. Ida in March of 1914. Dedicated in October of the same year, Masses were said by priests from Saint Mary's until the 'Mission' became a parish in 1924 with its own pastor, Father Leonard Koster. Dominican Sisters and Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart began religious education for children in the parish, traveling from Washington and Baltimore by train and streetcar. Capuchin Fathers also helped out at Saint Rita and became an important part of the church community. By 1940 the parish had grown to 1,000 and a new church was needed. Father Koster secured three acres on Russell Road from the Beall and Conlon families. After Father Koster's transfer in 1947, the new pastor, Father Gallagher, embarked on a program of construction which would give Saint Rita a complete plant including church, school, rectory, convent and annex. Even with the difficulty of securing materials during the Korean War, Saint Rita Church was dedicated on December 18, 1949, with Bishop Ireton laying the cornerstone. Described as a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, the church was constructed of Virginia fieldstone and Indiana limestone. LOCATION: Saint Rita Parish is conveniently located at the intersection of Glebe and Russell Roads in Alexandria. It is easily accessed from Interstate 395, U.S. Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway), the Pentagon, Crystal City and Washington-Reagan National Airport.

Though most people have likely heard, and are relatively familiar with, yoga, the paired physical and psychological (and to some, spiritual) exercises which arose out of the Hindu, Jainist and Buddhist traditions, not many are familiar with hot yoga. Hot yoga is just about what it sounds like, yoga with a lot of heat in a very literal sense. Hot yoga class rooms are generally heated well above room temperature, usually a little about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius). With that being said, be prepared to sweat - a lot - when taking a hot yoga class in your local area and remember to dress appropriately. Form fitting, yet light and breathable clothing will usually be your best bet. Do Not Overexert Lastly, beware of stretching too far, this is something you should definitely try to avoid in normal yoga programs as well but pay special attention to your movements and the way your muscles feel with hot yoga. The reason for this is that heat helps one stretch out the muscles but this can also lead to overstretching and, in extreme cases, muscle tearing. So with that being said, do not ever push yourself too far, or too hard - yoga is not a competition unless you make it one and there is absolutely no shame in taking a little break and letting your muscles recover.

Because of changes in the “991” numbering system, Indiana State University will now use the terms “university ID number” and “university username,” instead of the term “student identification number.” An email sent from ISU Tuesday said that the change was effective immediately. According to the email, “The identification number formerly known as Sycamore ID Number or 991 is now the University ID Number. The username formerly known as Sycamore Username, Sycamore Login, Portal Login or Sycamore ID is now University Username.” The email stated that this is due to future university ID numbers that will begin to start with a prefix other than “991.” “There is a numbering algorithm in our systems that applies the University ID Number to each student as the student is admitted. Once we are ‘out of’ 991 numbers, the system will just begin to use 992 as the initial three characters of the University ID Number,” Dr. Lisa Spence, the associate vice president for academic affairs and chief information officer, said. Spence said that university ID numbers will begin with “992” in the future, so the university is working to address the change now. “We needed a change to address the fact that right now we all call them ‘991 numbers.’” Spence said. “Since we need to make this change, we decided that we should make it in the best way possible. So we realized that we should use this opportunity to agree on consistent terms, and then have an information campaign about it to help everyone get used to using these new terms. We really do hope that this alleviates some confusion about which thing a person is talking about when a student is visiting in an ISU office or talking with someone over the phone, or even when staff and/or faculty are working together.“ This change will affect both staff members and students. Alfred Vangilder, ISU sophomore majoring in recreation and sports management, said that as a desk manager he will have to get used to not asking for a 991 number because it could cause confusion among students. Dr. Lori Henson, assistant professor in the department of communication, said that the change will take some time getting used to. “It’s going to be a little bit of an adjustment to call it something else when I’m advising students,” Henson said. “When I’m advising students, I always say ‘what’s your 991?’ and I’ll probably have to get out of that habit, but that’s okay. I don’t expect it’ll make my job too complicated.” Some students don’t view the change as a big deal, but also think that the change will take time to get used to. Fatimah Aldawood, freshman public health sciences major, said that the change doesn’t really matter and wouldn’t affect operations on campus very much. Froy Vega, a sophomore business management major, said he believes that they’re doing what is necessary for future Sycamores, but thinks that the change could cause some confusion at times. The use of “991” has been around for about 16 years. “The 991 number has been in effect since the early 2000’s. This numbering scheme was developed in order to reduce the use of Social Security Number as a commonly-used identifier for most departments on campus, due to security and identity theft concerns related to Social Security Number that had emerged by that time,” Spence said.
