Apolonija Šušteršič is an architect and visual artist. Her work is related to a critical analysis of space; usually focused at the processes and relationships between institutions, cultural politics, urban planning and architecture. Her broad – ranging interest starts at phenomenological study of space and continues its investigation into social and political nature of our living environment. She usually makes extensive researches into specific situations found on location, which she uses as a starting point of her project. Seattle painter, curator and social artist Kate Vrijmoet lives and works in Seattle, WA. She received her MFA from Syracuse University. Her paintings and installations focus on the human body and the human condition, and on issues of consciousness, boundaries, scale and access. Vrijmoet was one of 16 American artists participating in the 2012 5th Beijing International Biennial. Her sound installation, Mother May I…? was awarded Best Installation in the Brooklyn Wide Open exhibit by Charlotta Kotik, Curator Emerita Brooklyn Museum of Art. And it was exhibited at Orange County Center on Contemporary Art–a show endorsed by Nicolas Bourriaud. Vrijmoet has exhibited in shows juried by curators of the MOMA (Paulina Pobocha), the Met (Anne Strauss) and the Guggenheim (Nat Trotman). She received 3rd Prize in 2010 Ecuador Biennial. Her work has been published in the 2014 book Ufora, New American Paintings, The Seattle Times, Catapult Magazine. She is published in numerous catalogs including her CoCA Seattle solo exhibit catalog: Kate Vrijmoet: Essential Gestures. She has exhibited locally at the Linda Hodges Gallery, and has recently been awarded both GAP and Department of Neighborhoods Grants.
